Massage & Bodywork
Massage & Bodywork has been regarded as one of the oldest health care services, known to man. According to the doctrine of Hippocrates, "The Father of Medicine" and creator of the Hippocratic Oath, the body contains within it the power to re-balance and heal itself. The practice of using touch as a healing method derives from traditions and techniques rooted in ancient history, with written records found among ancient civilizations of China, Egypt, India, Greece, and Rome. Massage Therapy began as a scared system of natural healing, and today, stands as a highly respected holistic healing method across the world.
The Art of Healing
A large part of the healing journey is centered around emotional and mental healing. Holistic healing, considers the body as a whole; health & well-being, body & mind. Massage is an intuitive healing art. A massage therapist must know how the body works as well as be able to analyze the problem, based on where your pain emanates, to get to the root and begin therapy. Massage and therapeutic touch serves as a form of nonverbal communication. The transfer of healing energy that takes place between client and therapist can recharge the body and generate a feeling of greater well-being. Just 60 minutes can produce the same effects as 7-8 hours of good sleep.
Therapeutic Touch
Touch is the first of the five senses that develops in the human body and also the last to fade away. With millions of touch receptors in the skin, it is apparent the impact that positive or negative touch can have on us physically, mentally, and emotionally, along with how it can condition different responses, behaviors, and awareness. When we receive therapeutic touch through massage, our body releases endorphins which are the body's natural pain killers. This, with the addition of muscle manipulation performed by therapists can promote a myriad of benefits.
Massage can be used for a variety of health related purposes, including the relief of chronic pain, the reduction of stress & tension, rehabilitation of injuries, improvement of mobility & range of motion, addressing anxiety & depression, as well as aiding in overall wellness and self care.
What to expect?
Typically when booking a massage, you briefly inform the therapist about what type of massage or therapy you are looking for, what goal you want to achieve through massage, and prior health conditions or medical diagnoses. Some instances may not permit the application of massage.
When arriving to your appointment, allow approx 5-10 minutes to go over any questions, concerns, & preferences regarding pressure and comfort. After brief, consulting, the therapist will leave the room to allow you to safely and comfortably, undress to your comfort level & under a sheet on the massage table. The sheet will cover every area that is not being worked on by the therapist, to guarantee your privacy and comfort.
Once the session begins, you can communicate to your therapist whether the pressure provided is too deep or too light for you. Most massage sessions last 60 minutes, but can be longer if decided by client & therapist.
During the massage, it is encouraged to remind yourself to take deep breaths, as it calms & relaxes the body as well as sends oxygen to the muscles, organs, & other soft tissues, which can lead to better results.
Most importantly, ENJOY!
